MGM National Harbor Casino To Be Built Within 1 Mile Of Top Dollar Pawn & Jewelry

Top Dollar Pawn and Jewelry will be welcoming a new neighbor in 2016 — the MGM National Harbor Casino. The new casino is currently being built less than a mile from our store, so we hope you’ll take the opportunity to visit them after you stop by to see us. The casino will not only provide thousands of jobs for our area, but will provide a huge economic boost to the area as well.

The National Harbor Casino is the sixth casino to be granted a license to operate in Maryland. Whiting-Turner Contracting Company has been selected as the Prime General Contractor for the new casino.

MGM is known for its lavish and luxurious hotels and casinos. If you’ve been to Las Vegas you may have seen or visited some of their other casinos — MGM Grand, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay or the Mirage. Don’t think the word “casino” means all they will offer is gambling. Yes, there will be 3,600 slot machines, 250 game tables, including poker tables and plenty of opportunity for other gaming adventures.

There will also be seven restaurants, numerous retail shops, a spa and Las Vegas scale shows for those who want more than just a great gambling experience. The 18-story glass luxury hotel will house 300 rooms and suites, plus a rooftop swimming pool.

The restaurants will include southern-style barbecue and comfort food from Gina and Pat Neeley. Andrew Carmellini, a James Beard Award winner, will provide haute cuisine. Maryland’s own Voltaggio Brothers will have a restaurant there, as will other local and renowned restaurateurs. You can expect great shows to be held in the 1,200 seat theater.

If you’re in the area on business, considering renting some of the 35,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Don’t worry about parking either. There’s a 5,000 space parking structure as well.

Top Dollar Pawn and Jewelry, a family owned and operated store, is the largest and closest pawn store to the new MGM casino. Like Top Dollar Pawn and Jewelry, the MGM National Harbor Casino places an emphasis on supporting local businesses and residents.

The casino will be hiring thousands of new employees, providing jobs for construction workers first, then later for vendors, managers, chefs, servers, tech jobs, security and more than 100 different positions throughout the casino.

MGM will be hiring primarily people from Prince George’s County and other parts of Maryland. The company is committed to diversity, with half of their employees coming from minority backgrounds. The casino is dedicated to excellence, and promises to support the residents of the area through attracting an increased number of tourists, by providing jobs to thousands of men and women, and through raising the value and attraction of the area.

Top Dollar Pawn & Jewelry will be the premier pawnbrokers and cash for gold resource for all National Harbor visitors.

We have been knee deep in litigation with the county. Three weeks ago we managed to get a TRO (temporary restraining order) against parts of CB-40-2010. What that means is that the county cannot enforce certain parts of the bill. Yesterday we had our preliminary injunction hearing which would extend the TRO until we can go to full trial. Everything in court seemed to go well, I can’t go into specifics for obvious reasons, but one aspect of court seemed especially unfair. The county claimed its witnesses were all sick but since all of our witnesses were there we still had to present our side of the case. The county has now seen our entire hand and has until February 1st to formulate its side of the case based on what it saw us present. Does this seem unfair to anyone else? They didn’t even have to name their witnesses.

I will give more updates shortly…. Thanks for all your support!

We looooooooooove thank you cards.  We were more than proud to help Mrs.  M purchase books for her ‘Reading Cafe’ at Potmac High School in Oxon Hill, MD.   The little bit that we helped could never compare to the life long dedication Mrs. M. is giving to the children of Prince George’s County.  We need more teachers that care as much as Mrs. M. and work as hard to give hope and a brighter future to our children.  Thank you Mrs. M.

Thank you note;
Dear Top Dollar Pawnbrokers,

I can’t believe it. This morning when I woke up to find “Your project has been fully funded!” in my inbox I nearly cried. This overwhelming emotion is entirely because of you, your generous donations, and your continued inspiration to me and my students.When I say “thank you,” I feel as though I’m shorting you all somehow. There are not words to express how much my heart overflows with gratitude.

My students will be pleased and excited when I tell them that our project has been funded! I can’t wait until Monday!

Please do remember to keep giving, even if not monetarily, but with your thoughts, prayers, and volunteer work. Our schools need community involvement! Thank you so SO SO much!
With gratitude,
Mrs. M.

We just received a thank you note from Mrs. S, a teacher at Flintstone Elementary School.  The school is located fairly close to our shop so we jumped on the opportunity to help Mrs. S.  fund her growing music program.  We look forward to visiting the school in the future to see in what other ways we can help in the education of our children.

Thank you note;
Dear Top Dollar Pawnbrokers,

Thank you so much for your generous donation which will aid my music students. I am so excited about the prospect of being able to enliven their study of melodic notation with hands-on instruments! Our music program is already striving to do so much to enrich the lives of these high-need students, and being able to offer them the most dynamic, exciting lessons that we can will not only improve their musicality but also their literacy, mathematical skills, and self-esteem. Thank you once more for your generosity!
With gratitude,
Mrs. S.

We are proud to have donated over $1,000 to a local swim team, the Kingfish Swim Club.  We are hoping this donation will afford children in our community the opportunity to compete and learn the valuable lessons afforded to them by being part of a team.  Go Kingfish!!!

We are always looking for ways to give back to the community. We make a point to donate to the local fire and police departments every six months and starting last year we started donating to the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation – (www.childrenscancerrecovery.org). Over the holidays last year we picked one family that couldn’t afford gifts for their children and all pitched in to make it a Christmas they would never forget. I guess you could say giving last year got us hooked on that feeling and we can’t wait to give even more. The 2010 holiday season we would like to go bigger but are not sure how to go about it or what exactly we should do. Giving money is easy, we would like to be able to do something bigger and better then that. If you know of a family(families) in need or have any other giving ideas for us please share – we would like to make this next holiday season unforgettable for as many people as we can. Help us help with your ideas.

Thanks,
Top Dollar Pawnbrokers
